Ex-Las Vegas-area office manager accused of inflating paychecks, stealing $1M+

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KLAS) — A former office manager allegedly stole more than a million dollars by inflating her weekly paychecks for years, police allege in documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

Carrie Ward, 59, faces charges of theft and forgery by altering computer data, documents said.

In 2022, a person at Power Pallets, a North Las Vegas-based pallet manufacturer, reported an alleged embezzlement at the office involving Ward, documents said.

The person told police that Ward was allegedly adding a miscellaneous reimbursement of several thousands of dollars each week over the past four years, totaling more than one million dollars, documents said. The person also told police they suspected more money was allegedly embezzled over a longer period.

The total amount equaled nearly $1.1 million, police said. Another employee reviewing the company payroll noticed the discrepancy and informed a manager.

An attorney later told police that Ward “admitted that she took the unauthorized weekly reimbursements starting back sometime in 2014 or 2015,” documents said. Police said the company developed a reimbursement plan for Ward. Officers also attempted to work with Ward on a self-surrender throughout 2022, though that never happened, they said.

Police attempted to arrest Ward in the summer of 2023 at a deposition, but she did not show up, police said.

North Las Vegas police filed a warrant for Ward’s arrest in March, documents said. She was granted an own recognizance walk-through on April 10, meaning she was booked into the jail but allowed to leave without posting bail.

Ward was due to return to court on Thursday.
