Presidential hopeful Andrew Yang is building momentum when it comes to attracting more and more donations.
The Democratic presidential candidate announced his campaign raised nearly $750,000 on November 30 — a record single-day haul for his campaign — to bring his weekly fundraising total to $2 million. A campaign spokesperson confirmed more than 18,000 contributions were made in the 24-hour period at an average of just $41.
“If the political establishment was shaken when they saw what we accomplished in Q3, they better brace themselves in the coming months because we’re going to continue to shatter expectations and win this race,” Yang’s campaign chief Nick Ryan said in a statement.
The latest cash infusion builds on an impressive showing for Yang in the third quarter. His campaign boasted the largest fundraising jump by percentage among any of the top-tier candidates by posting a 257% jump in donations to hit $10 million in donations over that period.
The fundraising boost comes at a welcome time for Yang, who has yet to qualify for the sixth Democratic debate, which requires candidates to meet donor thresholds and poll at or above 4% in at least four DNC-recognized polls by the deadline of December 12. Despite meeting the donor requirements, Yang is still one poll shy of the debate stage.
A Yang campaign statement highlighted that the influx of support from donors would allow the businessman to continue to expand his campaign’s “footprint and ability to compete in early voting states with new offices and more staff” at a time when the Democratic field still remains packed with six candidates already qualified for the sixth debate, including former Vice President Joe Biden, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sens. Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Last week, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced he would be joining the race as well with a $35 million advertising push.
