'Zootopia' Hits $1 Billion Worldwide

Meet the newest member of the $1 billion box-office club.

Disney has announced that as of Sunday, Zootopia officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The PG-rated animated adventure has racked up a domestic total of $337.2 million and an international total of $663.5 million so far, joining Captain America: Civil War as Disney’s second billion-dollar movie of 2016.

Zootopia is only the 26th movie in box-office history to hit the billion-dollar mark, and it’s one of only four animated films to do so, joining Frozen ($1.28 billion), Minions ($1.16 billion) and Toy Story 3 ($1.06 billion). In all, Disney has 11 billion-dollar movies, more than any other studio.

Since hitting North American theaters on March 4, Zootopia has become one of the biggest critical and box-office hits of the year, boasting a 98 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and multiple box-office records. Not only did it earn Disney Animation’s biggest opening ever, debuting to $75 million, but it also set a record for the biggest animated March opening of all time. Overseas, Zootopia is China’s highest-grossing animated movie ever (and the highest-grossing Disney movie ever).
