'Zoolander 2': Breaking Down the Trailer
Has it really been 14 years since Zoolander came out? Between then and now, there’ve been three presidential elections, phones have gone from big to small to big again, and we’ve had 22 cycles of America’s Next Top Model. Some things never change, however, and so Derek Zoolander’s back at it, mixing the world of haute couture absurdity with secret agent hijinks.
But this time, Derek and Hansel aren’t tasked with assassinating a prime minister. Instead, they have to save the best-looking people in the world from a mysterious assassin. Based on the trailer, it’s safe to say Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Usher, Lenny Kravitz, and Miley Cyrus all manage to snap a “Blue Steel” selfie before getting the axe from a mysterious assassin. Is it a coded message to the world’s most famous (albeit washed-up) savior model?
One thing’s for sure, if one person couldn’t replicate Zoolander’s famous ninja star-stopping expression, it’s the newest addition to the cast, Kristin Wiig’s, who plays the plastic-faced villain, Alexanya Atoz. She’s like an animatronic Donatella Versace, and she won’t be alone in her presumed villainy, because Mugatu is BACK. Fourteen years haven’t changed that perfectly coiffed bouffant, and thankfully, Will Ferrell can still get away with just shouting random nonsense as a joke.
Zoolander 2 is in theaters next February.
