Zooey Deschanel Just Opened Up About Her Unexpected Dynamic With Her Ex-Husband Jacob Pechenik

When New Girl star Zooey Deschanel and former film producer Jacob Pechenik were still together, the two were much more than spouses and parents to their two kids, daughter Elsie, 7, and son Charlie, 5. In fact, they were also building a business together.

And while their vertical farmstand company, named Lettuce Grow, only launched shortly after their 2019 split, the two, who were married since 2015, have continued to work together ever since, per People. Co-parents and co-workers, talk a modern duo!

“I was a little worried [employees would] be scared, wondering what this meant for the company and me,” Pechenik, who currently runs the company, said in an interview with Inc., per People. “Would I be heartbroken?”

Soon, however, the two worked out their dynamic. “There was a time when I was asking less of her,” Pechenik remembered. “Part of it was because of our ex-wife, ex-husband relationship and the kids. I didn’t want to strain the relationship. And part of it was that the business was taking off without needing to lean on her.”

And while Pechenik runs the day-to-day operations of the business, Deschanel has continued to be vocal about their product and even graces the homepage of their website. “I mainly enjoy telling people about Lettuce Grow because I’m proud of the company,” Deschanel told Inc. “I think my enthusiasm becomes infectious because it’s genuine.”

“Zooey had done a lot of work in terms of getting people excited,” Pechenik echoed.

Hearing them talk about each other, we’re applauding them for being so mature and working things out for the sake of their business and their kids. In fact, Pechenik even added that Deschanel’s fiancé, Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott, is also seamlessly part of the dynamic. “We just did a holiday shoot,” Pechenik said of Scott. “Our relationship is a 10 out of 10.” We love to see it!
