Zoo Babies: Meet this happy baby hippo from the Dallas Zoo

Welcome to AOL Lifestyle's Zoo Babies, which profiles the newest and most adorable additions to zoos across America. From a baby sloth named Wookiee to a rambunctious baby tiger named Carli, these zoo babies will fulfill your daily dose of cuteness.

The Dallas Zoo is melting hearts around the world with two new additions to their family. Last week we met Mbani, a four-month-old baby gorilla who was just learning to adventure away from his family.

And today, we're meeting Adanna, a baby hippo that only recently joined the zoo family! Adanna's birth on May 14th was a welcomed surprise for zookeepers, who only found out about her mother's pregnancy soon after Adanna's father had passed away.

"Hippo moms love their babies and they are very protective," explained zookeeper Brendan Ryan about the baby hippo's relationship with her mother. Although she's a first-time mother, she's expected to stay with Adanna for seven to eight years.

The zookeepers have come to know Adanna's entertaining personality, which has amused the staff and zoo spectators alike and kept them on their toes! See more of Dallas' latest addition in the video above!
