Zoey Deutch just debuted a dramatic new look!

The actress, 29, unveiled a blonde pixie in a shocking hair transformation — which she helped cut herself! — in preparation for her latest role as ‘60s actress Jean Seberg in Richard Linklater’s upcoming film.

Deutch’s new hairstyle was first revealed in an Instagram video posted by celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham, who used Redken Shades EQ range to bring the actress from her dark brunette shade to a soft golden blonde.

Stylist Bridget Brager then got to work on pixie cut for Deutch to complete her transformation process, which overall took more than 16 hours.

In the behind-the-scenes video shared by Cunningham, Deutch smiled as she cut off a section of her hair with scissors while sitting in a salon chair leaving her with a long bob. The actress followed this up with a coloring session courtesy of Cunningham.

“We wanted to find the perfect shade for Zoey’s upcoming role,” Cunningham shared in a statement with PEOPLE. “Our work was cut out for us, as most of the photos we could find of Jean were in black and white — but we settled on a soft, golden blonde color that really captures Jean’s essence.”

Deutch was seen later on in the video having her new bleached locks snipped into a shorter pixie style — which she helped cut again — finally completing the transformation process.

Speaking further about her new hairstyle on Instagram, Cunningham shared that her aim was to make Deutch’s pixie cut authentic to Seberg.

“@zoeydeutch major transformation for her next movie! They wanted her to look like Jean Seberg. We didn't want to look like a current 2024 bleach and tone,” she explained in the caption.

“In all her photos Jean had a little root so we foiled with @redken #flashlift 30 volume at the root and 40 volume on the ends rinsed rehighlighted where I found dark pieces. Rinse shampoo condition. #gloss with #redken #shadeseq 09nb+09n20mins all over 010n,” Cunningham added.
