Zoe McLellan: 'I Need to Figure Out' How to Date as a Single Mom

Something single moms might not have a ton of time to focus on when their kids are young is dating, and Zoe McLellan — perhaps best known as Meredith Brody in NCIS: New Orleans — is no exception.

“Are you dating, or … ?” Real Housewives of New York City star Kelly Killoren Bensimon, 48, asks McLellan on the newest edition of PEOPLE’s Mom Talk.

The women laugh, with Bordertown‘s Jacqueline Piñol noting that Killoren Bensimon just “went there” unashamedly, while McLellan digs up an answer.

“That’s the thing, because I feel like if I’m saying that I want to date, I need to figure out how to do it,” replies the actress, 41, who has a 2½-year-old son named Sebastian with ex-husband J.P. Gillain.

“That’s the question: How do we do it?” she adds with a smile.

“Can you write the book on dating, by the way?” fellow single mom Killoren Bensimon asks YouTube sensation and blogger Mindy McKnight.

“Sorry guys, I have no advice on [that area]!” replies the mom of six.

Killoren Bensimon then shares an experience she has when she’s out on dates — namely, that she has two imaginary “friends” on either shoulder, with one telling her the guy she’s with is great and to have fun, while the other is coaxing her to get home to her teen daughters, Sea Louise and Thaddeus Ann.

Her method for dealing with these two subconscious fighters?

“I’m like, ‘Zip it, both of you guys, I’m done with you,’ ” she says.
