Zoë Kravitz Cast As Catwoman in New Batman Film With Robert Pattinson

Zoe Kravtiz is set to take on the iconic role of Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film.

Variety broke the news, Kravtiz will play the famous antihero in the upcoming film “The Batman.”

The actress, fresh off her “Big Little Lies” success, will be starring alongside Robert Pattinson who was cast to play the Caped Crusader. Matt Reeves will be directing the film which is set to start production in “late 2019 or early 2020.” The outlet says pre-production will begin this summer.

Reeves is known for his work on the last two “Planet of the Apes” films. He took over as director of the “Batman” franchise from Ben Affleck, who left in 2017.

The film has a release date of June 25, 2021.

Kravtiz will be taking on the role played last played by Anne Hathaway in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises. The actresses who have played the iconic role include Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

Pfeiffer played Catwoman in 1992’s “Batman Returns” and Berry starred in the 2004 “Catwoman.”

Pattinson only locked down the role in the new film in May. The director Matt Reeves narrowed it down to Pattinson and actor Nicholas Hoult.

Reeves thought of Pattinson when he wrote the script but wasn’t sure the actor would want the role because he had seemed to avoid big blockbusters since Twilight.

The actor didn’t even have the role when he was at the Cannes Film Festival. He was still auditioning and had to fly from Cannes to Los Angeles to meet with Reeves.

During his screen test, Pattinson had to put on an old Batsuit wore in a previous film for a screen test on a Burbank lot.
