Big Little Lies star Zoë Kravitz just revealed the “best part” of being married, in her opinion, and it’s probably not what you think. Having gotten hitched to fellow actor Karl Glusman last June, she’s still considered a newlywed — but that doesn’t mean she and Glusman don’t occasionally argue. Or that she doesn’t find those arguments oddly comforting. That’s right: one of Kravitz’s favorite things about marriage is… fighting? Here’s why.

Considering the meteoric rise of Kravitz’s star over the last few years, it goes without saying that she and Glusman have to make adjustments in their marriage for frequent time apart. For Kravitz, though, that’s a non-issue. She comes from an entertainment family, including mom Lisa Bonet and dad Lenny Kravitz. “I’m used to my family living in different cities, yet we stay close while all doing our own things,” she told Elle in the magazine’s January 2020 cover interview.

So, is that how she manages time away from Glusman? “Yes, I mean, Karl has his own career and needs to focus on that, but we’ve been together for a few years now, and we know where we are,” Kravitz explained, before revealing that it’s a classic married couple behavior that really grounds them. “If anything, the best part of being married is being able to have the odd fight and knowing neither of us is going to walk out the door. The commitment feels safe.”

It’s also possible Kravitz picked up some sage advice on being married in the entertainment industry from the women she shared the screen with for HBO’s Big Little Lies. “I learned so much from my Big Little Lies family. Much as everyone would like us to have been bitchy and competitive, we all got along so well,” she told Elle, noting that she considers Reese Witherspoon one of her best friends.

Another BLL co-star with special ties to Kravitz? Nicole Kidman, who was once (secretly) engaged to Kravitz’s rocker dad. And despite Kravitz confessing she was “a grumpy teenager” with Kidman, the women now share a unique bond.

“I feel protective, like a big sister, toward her,” Kidman told the magazine. “She is carving her own path with confidence and grace. She’s having a big moment now, but it’s only going to get bigger. She’s a triple threat because she can dance, sing, and act. She is deeply feminine, and she always smells so good!”
