Zendaya's Messy Ballerina Bun Is Going Straight to My Summer Mood Board

Fact: No one is doing it like Zendaya right now. I don’t remember another time in recent history when a celebrity’s red carpet looks were this big of a topic of conversation. If you’ve been following, you know the 27-year-old’s looks have recently been inspired by her latest tennis drama, Challengers. However, at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles yesterday, Zendaya took inspiration from elsewhere—2014 core, to be exact.

On April 17, it was just another red carpet appearance for Zendaya. We’d assumed that there would be more tennis core for the occasion, and perhaps her hair swooped in a preppy side part, as per usual for the press tour, But, when we saw the photos of her messy bun, we knew we were in for a treat.

Ursula Stephen, Zendaya’s go-to hairstylist, posted an up-close shot of the look on Instagram with the caption “A ballerina bun undone. Accompanied by airy, whimsical texture.” The actor wore her brown hair up—a change from her recent honey blonde color—in a high bun. Instead of slicking back her baby hairs, they were left undone and wispy. Next time I roll out of bed and throw my hair up in a bun, remember that it’s a ballerina bun undone with an airy, whimsical texture. Consider us obsessed.

All jokes aside, Zendaya looked ethereal—her entire outfit moved away from the tennis of it all, and instead, she wore a lingerie-inspired Vera Wang gown that also felt very 2014 in the best way. The dress had a black corseted bodice with lots of lace that melted into a voluminous ballerina pink gown with black tulle panels. She opted for minimal accessories and just added a pair of simple diamond earrings.

Her makeup was also similarly simple. Her cheeks were flushed with a rosy pink shade with a pink lip to match. She had bold brows and wispy lashes, with a soft pink eyeshadow that blended into a smoky brown color.

For the afterparty, Zendaya made a return to Tenniscore. Her neon green dress literally had a tennis ball at the center of the plunging neckline. The bright shade was especially stunning on the star, and she kept her hair in the same messy bun.

When Kylie Jenner made her King Kylie comeback with pastel pink hair earlier this year we knew that 2014’s influence would be staging a comeback in a big way. Zendaya’s latest messy-bun ballerina is further proof that the 2014 comeback is truly upon us.
