Zayn Malik Reveals What He Was Not Allowed to Do in One Direction
Zayn Malik shocked fans when he walked away from One Direction in March 2015 after five years of making music with the boy band. One year later, he’s still talking about 1D. In a new interview with Complex magazine, Malik — who’s known for his sexy scruff — opens up about the rules 1D members had to abide by.
“There were certain restrictions in terms of the way that we could come outside of that young teen boy look. Mainly my beard, honestly. I wasn’t allowed to keep it,” he reveals. “Eventually, when I got older, I rebelled against it, and decided to keep it anyway. That was just because I looked older than the rest of them."
Nowadays the 23-year-old is loving life with no follicle limitations. "That’s one of the things that is now quite cool. I get to keep my beard,” he says. ‘I also wanted to dye my hair when I was in the band, but I wasn’t allowed to.”
