Dating apps can be daunting territory for many singles, but apparently, it doesn't get much easier even if you're a famous celebrity. Case in point, former One Direction member Zayn Malik has even had his share of frustrating experiences when it comes to swiping, though perhaps not in the way one might expect.

These days, the 31-year-old, who shares a daughter with his ex-partner Gigi Hadid, lives a quiet life on his farm in rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he cares for a menagerie of chickens, dogs, cats, and turtles. However, living in the middle of nowhere certainly makes it harder to find a date. And as Malik explained to Nylon in a recent interview, he briefly dabbled in Tinder dating.

"It’s not been too successful for me, I’ll be honest," he told the publication. "Everyone accused me of catfishing. They’re like, 'What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?' I’ve been kicked off once or twice."

Though, he now admits that he's given up on dating apps, or meeting anyone for that matter. "I’m really content and happy with being single for the first time in my life," Malik explained.

"It’s probably wise to take your time before you fully invest in another human being as a lifelong partner," he later said when discussing his relationship history (before Hadid, he was also in a high profile relationship with British singer Perrie Edwards).

Malik also opened up about what it's like to be a celebrity in a small Pennsylvania town, not to mention one who's is "a heavily tattooed rock star with English and Pakistani roots in a largely white, rural community."

"I definitely stand out," he conceded, but says that for the most part, the locals don't pay him all that much attention.

"They wake up at 5:00, 6:00 in the morning, they’re on their farm, they're exhausted—if they see you [at the grocery store] they don’t care about you," he continued, noting that he gets mostly "friendly excitement" when he stops into the local watering hole. "People have said to me, 'We drive past your house all the time, but we don’t want to ever disturb you.'"
