'Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver' begins streaming on Netflix April 19

Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon is just getting started.

On Christmas Day, Netflix released a trailer for Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, the second of Snyder's two Rebel Moon movies made for the streamer.

The movie follows up on the events of Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, which debuted last week and follows a Kora (Sofia Boutella) as she gathers a group of rebellious fighters to take arms against an oppressive military group called the Imperium and its leaders, known as the Motherworld.

The first movie ends with Kora and her friends victorious after a climactic battle with Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein). The new trailer for The Scargiver shows Kora, Titus (Djimon Hounsou) and the other rebels as they prepare for the next battle and train the people of Veldt to defend themselves.

The movie "continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt to defend a once peaceful village" against the Motherworld, according to a synopsis.

"On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight," the synopsis reads. "As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made."

Rebel Moon's story won't end when The Scargiver releases in April. Snyder, best known for his work with the DC Extended Universe and Zack Snyder's Justice League, plans to release longer, R-rated director's cuts for both movies at a future date, as he told Entertainment Weekly in November.

The movie's ensemble cast also features Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Anthony Hopkins, Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy, Sky Yang and Charlotte Maggi.

Co-writer Kurt Johnstad teased the next installment to Variety and explained the cliffhanger ending.

"We’re introducing bigger, broader themes in the Motherworld, his connection to Balisarius, the astral plane — which we haven’t really seen a lot. It is something that we’ll see further, how they can move through time and space, a very science fiction or science fantasy trope," he said.

"We just thought it was so satisfying to see Noble or Ed get knocked off that buoy and for her to be standing victorious," the writer continued. "To have our heroes think that they’re riding off and everything’s gonna be okay — and then this guy is, like, unkillable, and he’s out there still hunting them. That was a pretty cool idea."
