Zach Bryan Posts Video Detailing Oklahoma Arrest For Getting “Lippy” After Traffic Stop: “I Was An Idiot Today”

Country star Zach Bryan, with a No. 1 album and single on the charts, was handcuffed by Oklahoma police twice this week and arrested once. “I was an idiot today,” the musician concedes in a social media video today explaining the traffic incidents that escalated when the singer got “too lippy” (his words) with officers.

“I just wanted to be completely transparent with everyone who listens to my music about what happened yesterday with me getting arrested,” the “I Remember Everything” singer says in the video posted early this morning. Bryan had previously posted a statement merely acknowledging the arrest and writing, “Emotions got the best of me, and I was out of line in the things I said…I am truly sorry to the officers.”

In the new five-minute video – watch it below – Bryan, an Oklahoma native, says that several days ago he was pulled over by Oklahoma police for driving “four to five [miles] over” the speed limit. Things got tense when Bryan was reluctant to hand over his license for fear of making his street address public.

Explaining to the officer that he was “a musician,” Bryan then says in the video, “I’m like, ‘Man, I’m not gonna give you my address.’” The officer then told Bryan to get out of the car, at which point the musician was handcuffed. Bryan then provided his address and was sent on his way.

Then on Thursday, as Bryan was driving to Boston to catch a Philadelphia Eagles game, the musician’s security guard, driving in a separate car behind him, was pulled over shortly after leaving Tulsa. Bryan says he drove around the block to wait for his guard, eventually pulling up behind the guard’s car. “I was gonna smoke a cigarette [and] the cop comes up to me and he’s like, ‘Sir, get back in your vehicle.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m not the one getting pulled over.’”

Warned for the second time in a week that he’d go to jail if he didn’t comply with an officer’s orders, Bryan says he got “lippy,” was handcuffed and placed in the front seat of the police cruiser, where he complained that the cuffs hurt and was told, “They’re not supposed to be comfortable,” angering Bryan further.

“I didn’t help my situation at all,” Bryan says. “I felt like a child. It was ridiculous, it was immature, and I just pray everyone knows I don’t think I’m above the law. I was just being disrespectful and I shouldn’t have been and it was my mistake.”

When the officer began to explain the situation and insisted he not be interrupted, Bryan disobeyed. “He started talking, I interrupted him. Naturally, because I was just angry.” The musician was then taken to jail in Vinita, Oklahoma, booked and released after he “cooled off a little bit.”

“I was just an idiot and I’ll take the fall for it,” Bryan says. “I’m a grown man and I shouldn’t have behaved like that, and it won’t happen again. I love you guys. Thanks for defending me online and stuff. I don’t really need it, I just shouldn’t have did what I did, and the world moves on.”
