Zach Braff says he and ex-girlfriend Florence Pugh still remain fond of each other.

Braff, 48, recently appeared on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show to discuss his movie A Good Person, which starred Pugh, 27, and released earlier this year. Braff wrote and directed the film while he and Pugh were still together. Pugh revealed in August 2022 that they quietly broke up after dating for three years.

"Well, we love each other. We love each other and we're friends, and I was on the Today show this morning, and she said she wanted to see pictures of what my outfit was to give approvals, so we love each other a lot," Braff said of Pugh on the radio program.

"Listen, I think it's pretty clear across the world that I'm not biased when I say that she is one of the finest actresses working today and I think anyone who gives watching A Good Person a chance will see that she's just extraordinary," he added. "I just feel so lucky that I got to have her be my leading lady."

In A Good Person, Pugh plays a woman named Allison, who is struggling with addiction and depression after her engagement to her high school sweetheart was called off following her involvement in a car crash that killed her would-be sister-in-law. Allison forms an unlikely friendship with her would-be father-in-law Daniel (Morgan Freeman) as she seeks help.

Braff has said that he wrote A Good Person specifically for Pugh to show off her acting chops.

"I'm just in awe of her talent and I said, 'I wanna write this for Florence. What I'm writing is really gonna be challenging, and she's incredible,' " he told Entertainment Tonight in March, adding that Pugh is "a next-level actress" and "just unbelievable."

"I wanted to write something for her and I had this image in my mind of that diner-booth scene and I thought of Florence Pugh opposite some legend that everyone's talking about," he shared at the time.

Braff and Pugh first connected on social media and worked together on the 2019 short film In the Time It Takes to Get There. The former couple were first spotted showing PDA during a trip to New York City that year and publicly confirmed their relationship by the end of that year.

The pair appeared together on the red carpet to promote A Good Person in the spring following their breakup. Braff has effused praise for Pugh's performances throughout this year, telling Vogue in January that he believes Pugh is "one of the greatest actors of her generation."

"She's just magnetic. You cannot take your eyes off of her," he shared at the time. "And it's not just her beauty and it's not just her acting ability, it's that thing, that magic thing that transcends the screen, where anyone and everyone goes: I want to see whatever this person does."
