Twenty-five years ago, three friends — played by Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler — invented an imaginary friend with the unbelievable name Ricky Stanicky to “visit” whenever they wanted to hang out. Now as grownups, that lie has caught up with them since their family members are demanding to meet the man who was their alibi on a trip to Atlantic City. So what do they do? In Peter Farrelly’s new work of cinema, Ricky Stanicky —”An R-Rated Comedy,” as the poster trumpets — they hire John Cena, who plays a washed-up stripper, to become Stanicky and of course all hell breaks loose.

In the trailer for the movie, which hits Prime on March 7, the trio tell their family that they’re visiting the cancer-stricken Stanicky while instead they go gambling. “That [lie] is gonna take us right into the World Series,” Santino’s character beams.

When but when the latter’s wife goes into labor, they have to run home and his mother-in-law starts calling him on his B.S., saying she called hospitals asking for Stanicky and couldn’t find him. “If the truth does come out, my marriage is over,” Santino grumbles. Then Efron suggests hiring an actor, leading them to Cena aka “Rock Hard” Rod, a stripper whose act finds him dressed as Alice Cooper, Boy George, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Peter Frampton.

“This is a really bad idea,” Fowler’s character says, and so it is. Rock Hard Rod wets his pants in public and insults their boss (William H. Macy). But of course, since it’s a Farrelly movie, Cena fails up — the boss offers him a job and Rock Hard wants to be Stanicky full time. That’s when the real trouble begins.
