Perry had told a friend that he hoped his 17 Again costar could play him in a biopic about his life.

Matthew Perry wanted to reunite with Zac Efron for a movie about his life — and now, the Iron Claw star has commented on the late Friends actor's wishes.

"I was hugely honored," Efron said of the recent revelation that Perry envisioned casting his former 17 Again costar in a biopic about his life. "It would be extraordinary to do," he told ExtraTV on Wednesday. "I'm still devastated by the fact that he is gone."

Athenna Crosby, who spent time with Perry just a day before his tragic death on Oct. 28, revealed that the actor had plans for a cinematic autobiography. "He said that he wanted to make a movie about his life," Crosby told ET Canada. "He said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version [of himself] and that he was gonna ask him soon to do that. He was just looking forward to sharing more about his story and his recovery from addiction, and really championing that cause to help more people, so he was so optimistic and happy about everything that he wanted to do."

Efron previously played the young version of Perry's character in 17 Again in 2009.

Last year, Perry told Jessica Shaw that he'd written a romantic comedy screenplay that he had hoped to direct, and that he initially envisioned himself as the lead actor — but then realized he was too old for the part. "I have a small part in it. I wrote it for myself and then realized I'm 20 years too old to play this. So we're trying to cast the leads now," he said, adding that he offered the role to Efron, who ultimately turned it down. "He said no, so we've got to find someone who says yes," Perry said.

Efron is currently promoting his upcoming wrestling drama The Iron Claw, which debuts in theaters on Dec. 22. "There's a huge element of the movie that's, of course, about wrestling and the showmanship aspect," Efron told EW. "But really, at its core, this movie's an incredible story about family, love, loss, and ultimately the triumph of a man who tries to break the cycle of this crazy curse."
