Zac Efron is opening up about his connection with his younger brother, Dylan Efron.

As Zac, 36, appeared at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie The Iron Claw Monday, the actor was asked by Entertainment Tonight whether his relationship with Dylan was on his mind while filming the new movie, which follows one generation of the Von Erich professional wrestling dynasty. Zac plays Kevin Von Erich and Jeremy Allen White plays Kevin's late brother Kerry Von Erich, while Harris Dickinson and Stanley Simons appear as David and Mike Von Erich, respectively.

"I mean, I can't say it didn't come into play," Zac told the outlet. "This movie is about brothers, at the core of it, and you know, I'm a big brother myself. I love him to death. But there's a certain kind of relationship — I don't know, it's just the brother bond."

"So, of course I thought about him a lot over the course of this movie. And I know that that connection, in the movie, is something that Kevin Von Erich really appreciated about it, so it makes me proud," he added.

Dylan, a social media personality, appeared with Zac and their family at Monday's premiere and at Zac's Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony earlier in the day.

"Hard to believe that my big bro who would sing and dance around the house all day, now has a star on Hollywood," Dylan wrote on Instagram Tuesday as he congratulated Zac on the honor. "I don’t think this was ever your goal either; you just wanted to be the best actor you possibly could & this star symbolizes the well-deserved recognition for the countless hours, dedication, and passion you’ve invested in honing your craft."

"Here’s to celebrating your journey and the amazing actor you’ve become. Proud beyond words," Dylan added in his caption.

“My mom and dad, they're the reason I'm here today,” he said. “They believed in me when I don't know how they did. It must've been difficult to drive me back and forth to auditions when I was 15, three hours from the Arroyo Grande out here, just to have such a small shot.”

“They believed in me, and they stuck with me, by my side, through all of it. And I think they sacrificed a lot to support me throughout the years," Efron told PEOPLE at the ceremony. "So to have them here and to both be here in person is ... it makes me emotional, man. It's very special. It means the world to me."

Zac's new movie The Iron Claw releases in theaters Dec. 22.
