On today’s (July 27) “Big Facts” episode, DJ Scream, Big Bank, and Baby Jade sat down with Yung Mal. Originally from New Orleans and humble beginnings, Yung Mal and his family migrated to Decatur, Georgia after Hurricane Katrina. Although he took some time away from the music scene, the young entrepreneur was elated to talk to the “Big Facts” crew about what he has in the works.

Things will be different now that Yung Mal is back in action. His intentions are to move abnormally by being less accessible, staying out of old neighborhoods, changing the people he surrounds himself with, and being a better person overall — living for himself and his 10-year-old son. He strives to make everyone in his inner circle proud and to want more for themselves.

Yung Mal talked about his first interaction with Gucci Mane, emphasizing that he’ll never forget the day. “That s**t was a dream. One day, I was thuggin’; the next day, Guwop was calling me saying, ‘Hey, come to Miami,’” the former 1017 rapper recalled. Mal reminisced about it being the first day he ever had real money in his pocket, and being able to go into the mall and buy an actual belt of his own as he was always used to hand-me-downs. His label at the time and Guwop played tug of war with the rising star for a while. This back and forth encouraged the young entrepreneur to become his own CEO. He founded 1.5 Da Label, complete with a roster of his loved ones and close friends.

Moreover, the East Atlanta personality was once one-half of a group with Lil Quill. He spoke highly of his friend, mentioning the amount of life they’ve experienced together while enduring supreme loss of friends and family, success, and failures. Lil Quill’s older brother was gunned down outside of Yung Mal’s home. Mal felt it was honorable to ensure Lil Quill was taken care of, being that such a heavy loss took place in his presence. “I remember telling my old manager, ‘Whatever you do for me, you got to do for lil bro,’” he recollected.

Furthermore, once the pinnacle of his music career has been achieved, Yung Mal has plans to invest in his family’s entrepreneurial ideas, such as dog breeding and trucking. Plus, he even expressed his personal interests in real estate. Baby Jade inquired a little more, wondering if he’s ever thought about modeling or acting, and he admitted he has considered both! Comically, DJ Scream and Big Bank asked about things he wouldn’t be willing to do in the acting realm. Yung Mal was adamant about not playing the role of a police officer. However, he reconsidered once DJ Scream hypothetically upped the stakes and said there was a “big bag” in store for him. “See, I get to thinking about it, in a movie being a cop, yea, I ain’t gon’ lie — I might. It all depends on what I’m doing, I got to be a crooked cop though,” the father of one admitted.

If Yung Mal was the mayor or leader in the streets of Atlanta, the first thing he would fix is the actual streets. “All these big a** potholes, I ain’t with it,” the artist stated. In addition, the 1.5 Da Label CEO shared that he would build more community centers and pools for the youth. “These kids don’t got nothing to do; that’s why they breaking windows and s**t — because they don’t have no pool to go to,” Mal insisted. He believes that if the youth is taken care of, it will lead to a positive ripple effect that will pour into inner-city communities.

Mal revealed that fans can expect a 1.5 Da Label compilation. Also, as a founder, he is focused on pushing all of his friends’ music. “I’m on some CEO s**t now. I’m going to turn up some more n**gas,” he expressed.
