YouTube Star Markiplier Signs With WME (EXCLUSIVE)

Markiplier, YouTube gaming vlogger whose channel ranks among the top 25 in terms of subscribers, has signed for representation with WME.

The 27-year-old, whose real name is Mark Fischbach, has a fanbase of more than 15 million YouTube subscribers and has generated more than 6 billion video views to date. Markiplier, one of Variety‘s 2016 Famechanger honorees, specializes in high-energy “Let’s Play” gameplay commentary videos — punctuated by F-bombs and other outbursts — with a focus on survival-horror and action genres.

Beyond gaming content, his videos also include animation, sketch comedy, parodies and vlogs that collectively rake in more than 200 million views every month. He also counts 4.5 million followers on Twitter, 4.4 million on Instagram and 3 million on Facebook.

Fischbach, who now lives in L.A., told Variety this summer that he was interested in branching out into traditional entertainment. “I want to push myself into music and acting — more traditional media stuff,” he said. Fischbach was born on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu before his family moved to Cincinnati. He was studying to be a biomedical engineer before he decided to make YouTube videos his a full-time career.

Markiplier also is affiliated with Revelmode, a joint venture between YouTube megastar Felix Kjellberg (better known as PewDiePie) and Disney’s Maker Studios, which is producing original scripted series and games as well as backing various charity projects.

Fischbach is repped by entertainment law firm Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller.
