The Detroit Opera Youth Chorus is returning for a second year and will perform at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Jingle Bell Rockout will feature five regional bands that will perform at 5 p.m. in a heated tent in the Ida Township parking lot on Lewis Avenue.

Both concerts are free.

The Detroit Opera Youth Chorus performs as a separate ensemble and with international opera stars in Detroit Opera mainstage productions. Its mission is to provide choral music and theatrical performance instruction in a professional environment to young people.

Its past productions have included “The Nutcracker” at the Detroit Opera House and Fox Theatre, “Carmen” and “The Magic Flute.” The members have sung the national anthem and “God Bless America” at several Detroit Tigers games.

The Detroit Opera Youth Chorus is directed by chorus master Suzanne Mallare Acton.

Jingle Bell Rockout features five regional bands that will perform rock and country music for three hours.

The bands are: Ellipsis (rock), Texas Pete and The Revolutions (rock), Hometown (country), Candor (rock) and The Boy Detective (rock).

“The bands hail from Michigan and Ohio and each have performing members from the Ida community,” Christmas in Ida organizers said. “The collection of bands will perform for 30 minutes each then quickly change sets and continue the show.”
