From “Top Gun” and “Beverly Hills Cop” to “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “National Treasure,” Jerry Bruckheimer has had a hand in many of the biggest blockbusters in Hollywood history. But in a video message revealed to the crowd at CinemaCon, the legendary producer said that his latest project, “Young Woman and the Sea” is his highest testing movie ever.

The upcoming film, which Bruckheimer produced for Disney, stars Daisy Ridley as Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, the Olympic swimmer who became the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel in 1926. She also set a record for the fastest time — beating the five men who had accomplished the feat before her — that remained intact for a quarter century.

Per the film’s official synopsis, “Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England.”

‘Young Woman and the Sea’ is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, who adapted the script from Glenn Stout’s nonfiction book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World.” In addition to Ridley, the film stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler.

Disney will release “Young Woman and the Sea” in select theaters on Friday, May 31. Watch the trailer below.
