The world of Big Bang Theory will likely live on at CBS.

The network is re-teaming with exec producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Holland and Steve Molaro to develop a spinoff of their prequel series Young Sheldon. While deals are still being worked out and CBS and producers Warner Bros. Television declined to comment, sources say the potential offshoot will revolve around Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s characters, Georgie Cooper (Sheldon’s older brother) and his fiancée Mandy McAllister.

The spinoff is being considered for the 2024-25 broadcast season with a 13-episode order and, in a change from Young Sheldon, the project will be a multicamera comedy. Young Sheldon, ending this year after seven seasons, is a single-camera comedy. The original Big Bang Theory ranks as television’s longest-running multicamera comedy in history.

A formal series order for the Young Sheldon offshoot is expected to come after deals for the leads close, with Lorre, Holland and Molaro, who have collaborated on the flagship and its prequel, set to write and exec produce. Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre has been housed for more than two decades, is the studio.

The Young Sheldon spinoff is separate from the other Big Bang Theory spinoff that Lorre is developing for Warners and was announced to be for Warner Bros. Discovery’s streamer, Max.

The news of the Young Sheldon spinoff comes as both of Lorre’s remaining broadcast shows, including Bob Hearts Abishola, are wrapping their runs this year. The comedy kingpin also just scored a second-season renewal for his Max comedy Bookie. When the Young Sheldon spinoff gets the formal greenlight, it will join prequel NCIS: Origins and Sherlock Holmes offshoot Watson as straight-to-series orders for CBS for the 2024-25 season. The network also held Matlock and multicam Poppa’s House for next season.
