Young Sheldon‘s border crisis remains unresolved when the Big Bang Theory offshoot returns for Season 6 (CBS, Thursday at 8/7c).

“The premiere picks up right after that phone call home to George and Mary,” revealing that Georgie and Meemaw are in custody at the U.S.-Mexico border, executive producer Steve Holland tells TVLine. “The first episode is about the fallout of that [arrest].”

Meanwhile, while holed up in a jail cell, “the reality of impending fatherhood and how his life is turning out starts to hit Georgie hard.”

Back in Medford, Mandy (played by new series regular Emily Osment) comes looking for Connie and runs into Sheldon and Missy, who have very different responses to meeting the mother of their future niece or nephew for the first time.

“Sheldon is very clinical about it, while Missy is actually really protective of her [older] brother,” Holland reveals. “Mandy has been keeping Georgie at arm’s length, so it doesn’t go quite so well.”
