Emily Osment has high hopes for the upcoming Young Sheldon spinoff, which starts shooting this summer.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at PaleyFest 2024 on April 14, Osment, 32, says she's excited about the upcoming series, which she will star in alongside Young Sheldon's Montana Jordan. Osment is set to reprise her role of Mandy, while Jordan will step back into her onscreen husband George.

Speaking to PEOPLE, the actress admits details about the comedy remain scarce. However when CBS announced the spinoff in March, the network hinted at the time the spinoff will revolve around Mandy and George raising their family in Texas “while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage.”

“I know they're currently writing it, and we're supposed to start [filming] this summer,” she explains, adding, “But we don't have a title yet."

Osment hopes to explore her character beyond what was shown on Young Sheldon, expanding upon the recent episode where Mandy and George finally tied the knot.

“It's hinted in the marriage episode that [Mandy] wants to go back to school, that she maybe wants to have a career, that she doesn't want to just be a stay-at-home mom, which is how I feel,” she explains. “I think that's such a tremendous thing for mothers to also be working, and I can't wait to see what they do with that."

“[Mandy] was a weather girl," Osment continues. "I don't know if she'll go back there, but I'm excited to see what career she takes.”

According to CBS, the spinoff will be a half-hour, multi-camera comedy produced by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland, who worked on The Big Bang Theory andYoung Sheldon.

"From The Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us. We're very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy," the trio said in a joint statement in March.

At the time, Osment reacted to the news by sharing the announcement on Instagram with a caption in which she called Jordan, 21, "the best fake husband a girl could ask for."

"Huge thank you to our Steves and our Chuck for putting their faith in us as well as my whole team for working tirelessly to make my everlasting multicam dreams come true. Stick around y’all, the story continues…💁🏼‍♀️👶🏼🙋🏻‍♂️," her caption added.

The actress also described Jordan to PEOPLE at PaleyFest LA on April 14 as a “wonderful, wonderful guy.”

“I get to hear him order a Sunkist to his trailer at 8:00 a.m. every morning, which is like, ‘He's so 21.’ He's so cute,” she says. “I can't wait to start this show and to get to spend more time with him.”

Jordan, for his part, told PEOPLE at the same event that he’s “putting all my faith” in the spinoff’s writers, who also worked on The Big Bang Theory.

“They know what they're doing. They've proven it to us,” he explains, adding, “I'm just excited as everybody else. I haven't read any of the script, but I'm just as excited. I'm ready.”
