Ashley and her alters might not want to hear this, but Dr. Alan Laurent isn’t going anywhere. Yes, Christopher Cousins recently announced his The Young and the Restless character will stick around a little longer. After all, making sense of Ashley’s mental health situation will take time.

More Quality Time With Dr. Laurent

Since his introduction as Ashley’s doctor friend from Paris, Alan Laurent has been taking his time assessing Ashley and her erratic behavior. But his work isn’t nearly done. It looks like he’ll need to stick around Genoa City, and that’s exactly what happens.

Christopher Cousins, who plays Dr. Alan Laurent, recently filled in some blanks for Soaps In Depth, saying his stint will last a little longer. This turns out to be a pleasant surprise, considering the actor originally thought his run would roughly be ten episodes.

“They’re keeping me on, which I’m very grateful for,” he explained. “I don’t know for how long or what, but I’m doing at least some episodes through May, it looks like.”

Cousins couldn’t say much more than that. But he did express his gratitude over this extended run. “I’m very pleasantly surprised,” the One Life to Live alum admitted. “The fact that they’re continuing is a nice little bonus. So I’m very happy.”

The soap vet can’t get enough of working with the caliber of talent at Y&R, including Peter Bergman, Beth Maitland, and Eileen Davidson. He said Davidson “is someone that I’ve always thought was amazing, so that was a great opportunity.” He also raved about working with another OLTL alum, Trevor St. John. “Trevor and I had one small scene together… and I really enjoyed it because it was a very different scene. I’d love to work with him, just more stuff with him.”

Cousins originally debuted on Y&R on April 30. This week, his character admitted he suspects what’s happening with Ashley. While he’s reluctant to label her with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), he does know that he’s been dealing with distinctly different personalities.

What kind of impact will Alan have on Ashley from here on out? Thankfully, he’s avoided any type of intimate relationship. But can he get her the help she needs? Or is he around for shadier purposes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
