You'll never guess which Phoenix restaurant Yelp claims makes one of the best burgers in US

Yelp released its list of "Top 100 Burgers in America" and one Arizona restaurant made the cut. The plot twist? It's a vegetarian restaurant.

The dining team at The Arizona Republic often finds Yelp reviews fascinating. This time, we were surprised that of all the burger joints in Arizona, the land of cattle, the one named was a vegan burger from Tempe's Green New American Vegetarian. (That said, it is, by all accounts, one heck of a great veggie burger.)Yelp described its methodology as such: "We identified businesses in the restaurants and food categories, with a large concentration of reviews mentioning 'burgers,' then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews."

Though they didn't make the top 100, Rehab Burger Therapy in Scottsdale received a 4.5 from over 3,156 voters. Paradise Valley Burger, one of our former critic's favorites, received a 4.5 from over 1,800 voters.

Six metro Phoenix restaurants: closed in May — one after 46 years

Tempe's Green New American Vegetarian earned the No. 18 spot

Tempe's Green New American Vegetarian took the number 18 spot on the list with a 4.5 rating from 1,548 reviewers.

Green has two locations, one in Phoenix and another in Tempe. It offers vegan takes on comfort foods like the Big Wac, which is made with two hand-packed beyond burger patties (made with textured vegan protein and spices), special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun. It's the restaurant's most popular burger, and earned them their spot on the list.

"I'm not vegan but I really enjoy eating at Green," wrote RJ G. "Then they told me it was vegan.....MY MIND WAS BLOWN!!!"

Try the Big Wac at Green

The vegan take on the Big Mac is available for $11. Add thyme french fries for an additional $3.50.
