Some of these you'll know, some you won't. 13 celebrities with homes in Massachusetts

We don't have to tell our readers that Massachusetts is a nice place to live. The proof is in the Yankee pot roast. But nothing says popularity like a celebrity endorsement. So how about 13 of them?

A number of world class celebrities live here at least part of the time. A perk of being rich and famous is owning multiple homes, but the fact that these household names chose to have one in Massachusetts has to say something good for the Bay State, right?

Steven Tyler

The Aerosmith frontman has a house in Marshfield. Fun fact, the band Aerosmith was in fact formed in Boston. At one point, all of the band members had homes on the South Shore, but Tyler has kept his, making several appearances around the city in recent years.

Steve Carrell

The actor most famous for his comic roles is an Acton native and now has a house in Marshfield Hills. Carrell also owns the historic Marshfield Hills General Store where you might spot him, particularly in the summer when he's known to return to the area.

Dan Aykroyd

The Saturday Night Live alum lives on Martha’s Vineyard in Chilmark. Aykroyd, who starred in "Ghostbusters" and "The Blues Brothers" has even gotten involved in town politics on occasion, sending a letter in 2020 to the Martha's Vineyard Commission in support of a local project, according to the Martha's Vineyard Times.

Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen

The actor couple also live in Chilmark near Aykroyd. Danson is best known for his work in "The Good Place" and "Cheers." Steenburgen for her Oscar winning performance in "Melvin and Howard." Their 1995 wedding was reportedly held at their Martha's Vineyard home and they've occasionally put on performances to help the island.

Elizabeth Warren

U.S. Sen. and former presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren lives in Cambridge with her adorable golden retrievers.

Spike Lee

The renowned director known for hard hitting films like “Do the Right Thing” is also a resident of Martha’s Vineyard, living in Oak Bluffs where he built his house in 1992. Lee's backyard abuts the Farm Neck Golf Club and he told Time Magazine he once cut through his yard to talk to former President Barack Obama on the golf course.

Harry Connick Jr.

The singer, pianist, actor and composer is another member of the Cape Cod celebrity community, owning a summer house in Chatham. They bought the house after spending some time in the area as a family.

"We just had a great time and thought it might be a fun place to spend some summers. We ended up staying and it’s not hard to find reasons to stay. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’ve had a lot of nice times up there," he told The Cape Cod Times in 2018.

The house was put up for sale recently.

Carly Simon

The singer of “You’re So Vain” owns a house in Martha’s Vineyard that she bought with former husband, James Taylor. She is now the sole owner and her ex-husband has moved across the state.

James Taylor

Simon’s ex-husband lives across the state in Lenox. In his song "Sweet Baby James" he sings about the Berkshires. Having lived in the Berkshires for more than 20 years, he's also a regular on the Tanglewood stage, playing a 4th of July concert every year. According to Berkshire Magazine, he has donated more than $7 million in proceeds back to Tanglewood.

Yo-Yo Ma

World renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma has a house in Tyringham. He's known for being an active member of the community, even taking his cello to play an impromptu performance at a vaccination clinic when COVID-19 vaccines were released. He also performs regularly at Tanglewood.

Robby Benson

Former teen idol turned Disney voice actor, Benson lives in Chatham with his family. Best known for voicing the Beast in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" and the resulting spin-off movies, he was also in "Ice Castles," "Ode to Billy Joe" and "The Chosen."

Rhode Island natives, Bobby and Peter Farrelly also own multiple homes on the Cape. As a duo, they wrote, directed and produced "There’s Something About Mary," "Dumb and Dumber," "Shallow Hal," "Kingpin," "Stuck on You" and "Fever Pitch." In recent years, Peter has done some work on his own including co-writing and directing "Green Book," which won two Oscars, and is one of the directors on "Lucky Hank."
