New York Man Charged with Murder after Car Crash That Killed His Sister and Niece, 6

Evan Klink crossed the center line on a road in Freedom, N.Y., and struck his sister’s vehicle, authorities said

A New York man was arrested last Thursday on a slew of criminal charges after a head-on car crash that claimed the lives of his older sister and young niece earlier this summer.

Evan Klink, 21, has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder and one count each of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault, reckless driving, driving while ability impaired by drugs and other vehicle traffic tickets, according to a press release from New York State Police.

On June 17, Klink was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram when he crossed the center line on a road in the town of Freedom and struck his sister’s 2005 Ford Focus, authorities said.

“The operator of the Ford, 24-year-old Dahlia J. Klink of Freedom, N.Y., and a 4-year-old passenger were taken by Mercy Flight for serious injuries,” the release states. Dahlia died of her injuries the following day.

Two other passengers in Dahlia’s car were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. This included 17-year-old Havanah Lopez and 6-year-old Molly Kibler — identified by WKBW-TV, WGRZ and CBS 6 as Dahlia's daughter.

Another 4-year-old passenger was transported to a local hospital where she was being treated for serious injuries, police reportedly said at the time.

Evan was also treated for injuries, while the 19-year-old passenger in his vehicle, Cameron Klink, was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition.

After a three month investigation, authorities charged Evan in connection with the deaths of Dahlia, Kibler and Lopez, per the release.

In a family letter obtained by WKBW-TV, Dahlia was remembered as “an amazing mom” who “never spent more than a day apart from her girls” and “had a contagious smile and the biggest heart.”

A GoFundMe page for each of the victims was set up to help loved ones with funeral costs.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit along with the  Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office and Arcade Fire Department investigated the case.
