New York Film Festival’s ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ Documentary Set for Theatrical Release
Indie film distributor Abramorama has picked up “Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened” — the “Merrily We Roll Along” documentary that will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival next month — for a theatrical release in November.
Directed by Lonny Price, an original cast member of “Merrily,” “Best Worst Thing” follows the development of the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical directed by Harold Prince. The backward-chronology tale of lifelong friends all played by young actors, “Merrily” flopped in its original Broadway run in 1981, but since then has grown in status among theater fans, and is now considered a landmark work.
Abramorama, which recently released Ron Howard documentary “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years,” has lined up a theatrical release for “Best Worst Thing” beginning Nov. 18 in New York City, followed by an LA run that begins Nov. 25. Before that, “Best Worst Thing” will bow at NYFF Oct 9.
An Atlas Media Corp. production in association with Allright Productions, “Best Worst Thing” is produced by Bruce David Klein with Price, Kitt Lavoie and Ted Schillinger. Broadway regulars Scott Rudin and Eli Bush are on board as executive producers.
