New York DJ Vaughn Harper, Pioneer Of ‘Quiet Storm’ Dies At 71

The radio world mourned the loss of DJ Vaughn Harper on Sunday (July 8), who was the host of the sultry and WBLS hit segment, “Quiet Storm.”

According to the New York Daily News, Harper’s death was confirmed by WBLS. He was 71 years-old. Harper began his career with the legendary R&B radio station in 1976 and introduced “Quiet Storm” with co-host Champaine in the early 80’s. Playing from everyone from Womack and Womack to Jodeci, Harper’s smooth voice helped set “Quiet Storm” apart from the rest.

“The Velvet Voice” left WBLS in 2008 and was honored last year by fellow jockeys DJ Red Alert, Geo Bivins, Cynthia Johnson, among others.
