New York Comic Con’s Must-See Panels, From ‘Teen Wolf’ to ‘Back to the Future’ Reunion

As the East Coast’s largest pop culture convention, the annual New York Comic Con (NYCC) is a space for comic, film and TV enthusiasts alike to find community in fandoms — all while in the city that never sleeps.

This year, the convention returns to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Oct. 6-9 with a stacked lineup of panels, exhibitions and exclusive VIP experiences.

Similar to last year’s hybrid format, attendees have the choice of purchasing tickets at $22.75 a piece for digital access to the event’s in-person programming. Panels in major convention halls will be streamed over live video, while audio streams will be available for smaller rooms.

ReedPop, the company behind the production of NYCC, released a full schedule for the four-day event. And though there’s hundreds of options to choose from across a vast spectrum of fan bases, we’ve highlighted the most exciting panels you’re not going to want to miss. (All times below are in ET.)

“Ghosts” Exclusive Screening and Panel (Oct. 6 at 2 p.m., Main Stage) — CBS’ supernatural sitcom, “Ghosts,” adapted from a British series with the same title, is approaching its second season — details of which will be discussed by cast members and executive producers at the panel after a first look at a brand new, yet-to-be-aired episode.

HBO Max’s “Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler” (Oct. 6 at 3:15 p.m., Room 401) — Season 3 of Alfred Pennyworth’s DC origin story will premiere ahead of its Oct. 6 release date at a star-studded panel featuring actors Jack Bannon and Ben Aldridge as well as executive producers Bruno Heller and John Stephens. The panelists will also discuss the making of the new season, which begins with a five-year time jump.

HBO Max’s “Velma” (Oct. 6 at 3:30 p.m., Main Stage) — Executive producer Mindy Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy will give fans an early peek at the pilot of “Velma,” Warner Bros. Animation’s upcoming adult comedy spinoff of the Scooby-Doo franchise. The series follows the origin story of the Mystery Inc. gang’s nerdiest (and we’ll say it — hottest) member, Velma Dinkley, who is also voiced by Kaling.

HBO Max and BBC One’s “His Dark Materials” (Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m., Main Stage) — With a third and final season on the horizon, executive producers Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch will join cast members Dafne Keen, Amir Wilson and James McAvoy for a preemptive look at the series’ dramatic conclusion and a conversation moderated by Emily Aslanian, senior editor of TV Guide Magazine.

“Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” (Oct. 6 at 7 p.m., Main Stage) — Adapted from Anne Rice’s trilogy “Lives of the Mayfair Witches,” AMC will debut a new gothic romance series called “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” in early 2023. Executive producers and cast will walk through the development phase of the series and talk with fellow bookworms about transforming Rice’s characters from the written word to a visual medium.

Prime Video Presents: “The Legend of Vox Machina” (Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Empire Stage) — Executive producers and cast from the adult animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina” will give fans an idea of what’s in store for the show’s second season.

Netflix Presents: “The Midnight Club” (Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Room 405) — Netflix’s “The Midnight Club” hits streaming services Oct. 7, but NYCC attendees will get a day-early look at the brand new thriller series before the clock strikes midnight. The screening will be followed by a conversation with executive producers, cast members and series creator Mike Flanagan.

World Premiere – “Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm” (Oct. 6 at 8:30 p.m., Main Stage) — “Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm,” an action-packed mystery-adventure adapted from an Adult Swim series, will premiere at the NYCC Main Stage ahead of its November release date. The screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with key crew and cast members like Carey Means and Dana Snyder, who both starred in the original “Aqua Teen Hunger Force.”

Dan Harmon Presents “Krapopolis” (Oct. 7 at 11 a.m., Main Stage) — Dan Harmon, co-creator of the hit Adult Swim series “Rick and Morty,” will discuss the process of making his next animated sit-com, “Krapopolis.” The ongoing project is set to premiere in 2023, but fans of Harmon can expect to get a taste of the series with the approaching Nov. 27 release date of a special preview episode.

Prime Video Presents: “Good Omens” (Oct. 7 at 11 a.m., Empire Stage) — Based on the hit novel by Neil Gaiman, Prime Video’s “Good Omens” is approaching its second season, which cast and creators are sure to discuss at this year’s panel in addition to a “very special” fan Q&A, according to the NYCC website.

“American Born Chinese” (Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., Main Stage) — For Disney fanatics of all ages, this panel is a must-see, featuring an audience Q&A with the cast and creative team behind “American Born Chinese,” Disney+’s upcoming original series. The filmmakers will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the animation process for the anticipated coming-of-age, action-comedy, which is based off of a graphic novel by Chinese American author Gene Luen Yang.

“Chucky” Season 2: Cast Conversation and Exclusive Sneak Peek (Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m., Empire Stage) — Everybody’s favorite doll capable of murder has returned to the screen with Syfy’s “Chucky” horror series, which is coming up on its second season. Series creator Don Mancini and cast members Jennifer Tilly and Zackary Arthur will answer audience questions about the show and tease at what comes next for the blood-crazed toy.

Prime Video Presents: “The Wheel of Time” & “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power” (Oct. 7 at 4:15 p.m., Empire Stage) — In this two-hour session of back-to-back panels, the cast and creative teams behind both “The Wheel of Time” and “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power” will make their first in-person Comic Con debut. Fans can expect to walk away with hints about Season 2 of “The Wheel of Time” as well as the season finale of “Rings of Power.”

“Teen Wolf: The Movie” & “Wolf Pack” (Oct. 7 at 6 p.m., Main Stage) — Following massive success from 2011 to 2017 as creator and head writer of the hit show “Teen Wolf,” Jeff Davis is going back to his roots with two new spinoffs of the series. At the panel, Davis will discuss the coming debut of his newest series, “Wolf Pack,” as well as details about the release of “Teen Wolf: The Movie.” He will be joined by cast members of both the new film and series.

“Violent Night”: Exclusive Screening Event (Oct. 7 at 7:15 p.m., Empire Stage) — Director Tommy Wirkola will bring his newest holiday-thriller, “Violent Night,” to the NYCC Empire Stage for a first-time screening of the film. The movie stars David Harbour as Santa Claus.

Prime Video Presents: “The Peripheral” (Oct. 8 at 11 a.m., Main Stage) — NYCC attendees can expect to get a first look at “The Peripheral,” a sci-fi thriller series based on a William Gibson novel, ahead of the show’s Oct. 21 release on Amazon Prime Video. Series stars like Chloë Grace Moretz, Jack Reynor and Gary Carr will engage in a dialogue about the show alongside creator and showrunner Scott B. Smith, executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan and director Vincenzo Natali.

“Smallville” Cast Reunion (Oct. 8 at 12:30 p.m., Main Stage) — Two decades after the show’s 2001 debut, cast members of “Smallville” such as Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Kristin Kreuk and John Glover will reunite at the NYCC Main Stage. The reason? To celebrate the 10-year history of the popular superhero action show that helped provide new depth to the iconic DC Comics character Clark Kent — better known as Superman.

My Hero Academia (Oct. 8 at 12:30 p.m., Empire Stage) — Cast members of the popular manga-turned-anime “My Hero Academia” will delve into the details of the highly anticipated sixth season. Justin Briner, the English voice actor of Deku, will be present, alongside several other vocal artists who have yet to be announced.

A Conversation With the Crows and Leigh Bardugo (Oct. 8 at 2 p.m., Main Stage) — Cast members like Amita Suman, Freddy Carter and Kit Young from the Netflix series “Shadow & Bone” will analyze the show’s first season with Leigh Bardugo, author of the “Shadow and Bone” trilogy on which the television series is based. Fans can also expect to hear about the second season, which wrapped filming in June.

Netflix Presents: “Manifest” Season 4 (Oct. 8 at 3:45 p.m., Room 401) — With Netflix’s hit supernatural drama series, “Manifest,” on to its fourth and final season, the show’s cast and creator Jeff Rake will tease what fans can expect to witness in the conclusion of the series.

“Star Trek” Universe (Oct. 8 at 4 p.m., Empire Stage) — Returning NYCC attendees know that the annual “Star Trek” Universe panel is a can’t-miss event year after year; but what makes this year’s panel special is a jam-packed conversation with cast and crew about the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard.” Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes and LeVar Burton are just some of the names in attendance, in addition to multiple voice actors from the “Star Trek: Prodigy” series as well.

“The Walking Dead” (Oct. 8 at 5 p.m., Main Stage) — The cast and creative team of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” will dive into the final episodes of the zombie-survival drama, which has aired for over a decade and spans 11 seasons. By the time of the convention, the last eight episodes of the season will already be available on AMC and AMC+ (starting Oct. 2 in the U.S.), though fans can expect hints toward the series finale, which will be released in November.

Netflix Presents: “Wendell & Wild” (Oct. 8 at 5:15 p.m., Room 401) — From the stop-motion director that brought to life films like “Coraline” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Henry Selick will discuss the making of his latest animated project, “Wendell & Wild” with fans at NYCC. Selick will also show off some of the assets used in the making of the film.

Jamie Lee Curtis: Tribute to 45 years of Halloween and Laurie Strode, Moderated by Drew Barrymore (Oct. 8 at 6:15 p.m., Empire Stage) — Reprising the role of Laurie Strode over 40 years later, actor Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to the screen for “Halloween Ends,” the latest installment of the Michael Myers films. In a conversation moderated by fellow scream queen Drew Barrymore, Curtis will discuss her experience playing Laurie from past to present.

“Back to the Future” Reunion (Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m., Main Stage) — Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, stars of the “Back to the Future” trilogy, are reuniting for an audience Q&A at the NYCC Main Stage. Fox (now 61) and Lloyd (now 83) will reflect on their experience playing the iconic roles of Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown.

Netflix Presents: “Wednesday” (Oct. 8 at 7:45 p.m., Empire Stage) — Prior to its debut on Netflix, the all-new supernatural-mystery series “Wednesday” is hitting NYCC just in time for the Halloween season. The show is a spin-off series of “The Addams Family” specifically following the character Wednesday Addams, who will be played by actor Jenna Ortega. Ortega, along with other members of cast and crew will attend the panel in the wake of the upcoming release.

Sam Heughan Meet and Greet [Separately Ticketed Event] (Oct. 8 at 9:30 p.m., Empire Stage) — Scottish actor Sam Heughan, known for playing the role of Jamie Fraser on “Outlander,” will conduct small group meet and greets, take photos with fans and answer audience questions in a separately ticketed event. There are a variety of ticket types ranging in cost offered on the NYCC website, with the cheapest option being a ticket to just the Q&A portion of the event for $32.75 (with the prerequisite of a Saturday or 4-day NYCC ticket).

Sunday Morning Tea With Two Highlanders & A Lord (Oct. 9 at 10:30 a.m., Empire Stage) — The day after “Outlander” star Sam Heughan’s separately ticketed meet-and-greet, the actor will return to the convention floor with co-stars Duncan LaCroix and David Berry to reflect on the making of the show. Diana Gabaldon, the author of the series upon which the show was based, will also join in for the discussion.

The Muppets Mayhem (Oct. 9 at 11 a.m., Main Stage) — It’s time to play the music! Coming to Disney+ in 2023, “The Muppets Mayhem” is a brand-new series that, for the first time in the Muppets’ over 65-year history, focuses on the legendary Electric Mayhem band as they maneuver their way through the music world of Los Angeles with one goal – to finally record their first album. Join the “human” stars of the series – Lilly Singh, Tahj Mowry and Saara Chaudry – as well as co-creators and executive producers Adam F. Goldberg, Jeff Yorkes and Bill Barretta for exciting news, exclusive footage and more!

Oscar Isaac Spotlight (Oct. 9 at 12:15 p.m., Empire Stage) — From “Star Wars” to “Dune” to “Moon Knight,” actor Oscar Isaac’s filmography boasts a wide array of popular franchises. The 2016 Golden Globe winner will engage in an audience Q&A as well as a conversation about his burgeoning success.

“The Winchesters” Pilot Screening and Q&A (Oct. 9 at 2 p.m., Empire Stage) — Ahead of its scheduled premiere, NYCC attendees can get a first look at the pilot episode of The CW’s “The Winchesters,” an upcoming sequel to the “Supernatural” series. Cast and crew will join the audience for this first-time viewing, which will be followed by a Q&A.

HBO Max and DC’s “Doom Patrol” and “Titans” (Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m., Main Stage) — In this double-feature panel, the cast of HBO Max and DC Comics’ “Doom Patrol” will first take the Main Stage at 3:30 p.m. for a discussion on the upcoming debut of the show’s fourth season. Stars at the event will include Brendan Fraser, Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Jovian Wade and Michelle Gomez. Then at 4:15, “Titans” executive producer Greg Walker and star Brenton Thwaites will preview their own upcoming season.

Let’s Get “Weird” (Oct. 9 at 4 p.m., Empire Stage) — The Roku Original film “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” is available to stream starting Nov. 4, but in preparation, the cast and crew of the satirical biopic will take the stage to talk about the filmmaking process. The panel guest list is star-studded, including actors Daniel Radcliffe and Evan Rachel Wood, director Eric Appel and the legendary Weird Al Yankovic himself.
