Poll results reveal what Erie would want in a ball drop to celebrate New Year's Eve

There are cities throughout the country which celebrate New Year's Eve by lowering objects with significance, historical or otherwise, to their communities.

The Times-News asked readers to pick among 10 choices on what they would like to see represent Erie if the city ever created its own interpretation of the infamous New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square.

Among a list of possible replica items to showcase Erie, one item stood out in the poll: The pepperoni ball.

With more than 400 responses, pepperoni ball had the most votes with 116 (27.95%). The Flagship Niagara was a close second with 110 votes (26.51%).

Pennsylvania is chock full of special object drops to signify the start of the new year. Lebanon City has a bologna drop, while Dillsburg drops a pickle, York lowers a white rose, a strawberry descends in Harrisburg and a wrench drops in Mechanicsburg, to name a few.
