The next collaboration between “Poor Things” filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and his Oscar-winning star Emma Stone will be here sooner than expected.

On Thursday, Searchlight Films announced that “Kinds of Kindness,” an anthology film directed and co-written by Lanthimos and starring Stone, will debut in limited release on June 21. The surprise date announcement portends to a potential Cannes Film Festival debut, although whether that comes to fruition is unknown.

In addition to Stone, “Kinds of Kindness” – which, at one point, was simply called “And” – also stars Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau, Joe Alywn, Margaret Qualley, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer.

Speaking of “Kinds of Kindness” last year, Lanthimos told The Guardian the project was a “contemporary film” set in America that told three distinct stories. The film’s all-star cast will feature across all three sections playing different roles in each part.

“It was almost like making three films, really,” Lanthimos said. “But it’s great to be working again with Emma. It makes it so much easier to have someone there who trusts you so much, and who you trust so much.”

Lanthimos and Stone have worked together multiple times thus far, including 2018’s “The Favourite,” the 2022 short film “Bleat,” and last year’s “Poor Things.” Their partnership has been catnip to academy members. “The Favourite” received 10 Oscar nominations in 2019, including Best Picture and Best Director for Lanthimos, and Best Supporting Actress for Stone (the film won Best Actress for Olivia Colman). At Sunday’s Oscars, “Poor Things” won four awards from 11 total nominations, including Best Actress for Stone. Once again, Lanthimos was a nominee for Best Picture as a producer and Best Director.
