YNW Melly Has Bittersweet Feelings About Kendrick Lamar Mentioning Him On “Euphoria” Drake Diss

This week, Kendrick Lamar shocked the world when he released “Euphoria,” a diss track aimed at Drake. He namedropped multiple rappers, namely YNW Melly, who had mixed feelings about being mentioned.

Lamar put together an impressive nine-bar stretch about the 6 God, J. Cole, and their current competitive relationship. “It’s three GOATs left and I seen two of them kissin’ and huggin’ on stage/ I love ’em to death, and in eight bars, I’ll explain that phrase, huh/ It’s nothin’ nobody can tell me, huh/ I don’t wanna talk on no celly, huh/ You know I got language barriers, huh/ It’s no accent you can sell me, huh/ Yeah, Cole and Aubrey know I’m a selfish ni**a/ The crown is heavy, huh/ I pray they my real friends, if not, I’m YNW Melly,” he rapped.

This was a reference to the Florida rapper currently being in prison for his alleged double murder in 2018. Melly is awaiting a new trial after a mistrial in 2023, but was able to speak with TMZ about coming up in the diss record. “Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorite rappers so I feel honored and appalled,” he said. “I’m a household name—just for the wrong sh*t!!!”

Kendrick Lamar surprise released “Euphoria” on Tuesday (April 30). The track was originally only available on YouTube and was later added to all streaming platforms that same day. The Compton rapper did not stop at mentioning just YNW Melly, as he brought up Drake’s friendship with Sexyy Red.

“I’m knowin’ they call you The Boy, but where is a man? ‘Cause I ain’t seen him yet/ Matter fact, I ain’t even bleed him yet, can I bleed him? Bet/ When I see you stand by Sexyy Red, I believe you see two bad bi**hes/ I believe you don’t like women, it’s real competition, you might pop a** with ’em,” he rapped.

Lamar also brought up Drake’s foe Pusha T and his close collaborator Pharrell. “I don’t like you poppin’ sh*t at Pharrell, for him, I inherit the beef/ Yeah, f**k all that pushin’ P, let me see you push a T/ You better off spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me/ He’s Terrence Thornton, I’m Terence Crawford, yeah, I’m whoopin’ feet,” he rapped. The 6 God and Push went head-to-head in 2018 with their diss records “Infrared,” “Duppy Freestyle,” and “The Story Of Adidon.” It is popularly regarded as Drake’s first loss in rap beef.

“Euphoria” is Kendrick Lamar’s response to Drake’s one-two punch attack of “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” though the latter record, which only lived on X and Instagram, was deleted after Tupac’s estate sent the Toronto rapper a cease and desist order for using the Pac’s likeness on the track.

K. Dot sparked this chapter of their feud when he appeared on “Like That,” a track from Future and Metro Boomin’s March album, We Don’t Trust You.
