YG is bringing a new drama series to television. Officially confirmed by Deadline on Monday (Oct. 23), the rapper is set to executive produce Don’t Come To L.A. with Amazon MGM Studios. Writer-producer Damani Johnson is enlisted as the showrunner on this project.

“I got a TV show in the works that I’m working on called Don’t Come To LA. It’s a great script, and I’ve already sold it to a network,” teased the 33-year-old performer during an interview with Numéro Netherlands last month. “I’m not going to tell you which network it is yet, you’ll know about that very soon.

According to Deadline, the series details the experiences of a low-level Los Angeles gangster assigned to protect one of the hottest rappers in the industry by the crime syndicate security company he works for. In his journey, he must learn to navigate both the bloodthirsty gang world and the glitz and glam of the celebrity scene.

Don’t Come To L.A. is written by Keith Sweet II, who like YG, is native to Southern California, specifically the city of Compton.

“California influenced my sound and style one hundred percent. Everything about what I do is connected to California and my hometown. It encompasses everything, from the beats and the tempos to the videos, the way I talk, walk, and dress,” explained the My Krazy Life musician to Numéro Netherlands. “I embody the essence of California, representing the West Side, LA, the mountains, and more. My entire success is deeply rooted in California, it’s a full one hundred percent influence.”

Trevor Engelson, Josh McGuire, Scooter Braun, James Shin, Scott Manson of SB Projects, and Douglas Banker at Five All in the Fifth are also all executive producers on the pending series.
