Yes, There Is Competition Between The Cambridges and The Sussexes
It's constantly being said that the media is drumming up the supposed competition between The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, yet critics try to claim there is none.
Naive people would like to pretend there is complete harmony behind the scenes and that Prince William and Prince Harry are not in a feud, and Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are super close sisters-in-law- who trade cooking recipes and have play dates with their children.
However, to assume the couples don't compete for media attention and the spotlight is just not looking at recent events.

Efforts To Avoid Diary Clashes Last Year
In 2019, The Cambridges and The Sussexes both went on overseas tours, with Kate and William visiting Pakistan and Meghan and Harry visiting Africa. There was a big effort from palace courtiers to make sure there weren't any diary clashes.
Royal commentator Katie Nicholl told Fabulous Digital, “I would expect the palace would have tried to have planned it so there weren’t be too many clashes as the Cambridges will be putting the spotlight on Pakistan and the Sussexes will be shining their light on Africa."
She continued, "I think that’s why where couriers can avoid diary clashes they will because they’ll be keen to avoid any sense of competition between the couples.”
The Couples Looks As If They Want To One Up Each Other
Despite these efforts, the couples seem to want to make headlines to one-up each other. While it's been claimed Kate and Meghan find the idea of being pitted against each other "challenging," as a source told People in November, there are still subtle clues that the couples are both trying to stay more relevant than the other.
Now, with Meghan and Harry going rogue, there is no way for palace courtiers to control future diary clashes, and with Instagram always looming in the shadows, things will get even more competitive.
Social Media Has Become The Next Battle Ground
Social media could become the next frontier that the couples will find themselves competing on, as was displayed recently.
While Kate Middleton has been on a 24 hour tour of Britain, with one of her stops being a baby sensory class in Cardiff, Meghan Markle chose this as the perfect time to post two week old photos of herself visiting an animal welfare charity in London to Instagram.
Coincidence? Possibly, but the timing looks suspicious and very strategic. Now, with the recent announcement that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are stepping back from the royal family, there is no telling what will occur.

Clearly, the royals are using Kate Middleton as a secret weapon to give the monarchy a boost this week after an extremely tough few months.
But, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanting to carve out a role for themselves outside the royals, they'll be doing everything they can to stay relevant and raise their profile, especially as they seek to become "financially independent."
It's hard to say how things will play out in the future, but by the looks of this poorly timed Instagram post from Meghan, things are going to get pretty murky.
