Yes, Animated 'Aladdin' Stars Still Recognized by Their Voices

When you’re a huge A-list movie star like Angelina Jolie or Leonardo DiCaprio, people recognize your face. But when your biggest role has been in an animated movie, it’s your voice that’s the giveaway to fans. So says the cast of Aladdin in an interview with Yahoo Movies (above).

Linda Larkin, who played Jasmine in the animated classic, says little girls perk up when they hear her voice. “They know who it is,” she says, revealing that she’ll give the young fans a knowing nod when they look at her. Scott Weinger, who voiced Aladdin, said the weirdest time a fan recognized his voice was when he was ordering a pint of Guinness at an Irish pub. Weinger also revealed his young son, who is about to turn 6, has been pretty confused about his dad’s connection to the movie. “He just thought that was me as a kid — that I was a cartoon when I was a kid,” he said.

Now that more than 20 years has passed since Aladdin came out, there’s a plus side for Weinger: The era of answering machines is over. “There was a very long time when people would make me be their outgoing message — which was just annoying.”

A digitally remastered Blu-ray of Aladdin, with new extras, is available now.
