Yelp, Washington Post say these are some of New Jersey's best pizzas

Here in New Jersey, we don't need anyone telling us where to find good pizza.

We all have our favorite neighborhood spots, plus a long list of pizzerias we can't wait to try. There are Facebook groups and Instagram pages dedicated to New Jersey pizza, and no matter where you go in the Garden State, you are never far from a great pie.

But our dedication to pizza also means perusing "top" and "best of" lists to see if we missed a spot, and The Washington Post recently named "the best regional pizza in each state" after analyzing more than 7 million Yelp reviews of Detroit, Neapolitan, New York, Roman and Sicilian pies.

Many of the 29 New Jersey restaurants named are in the northern part of the state, with others peppered west, east and south all the way to Ocean City.

These are the top in each category.

Detroit-style pizza

This thick-crusted pizza, baked in a square pan with tall sides, is distinguished by a lacey-edged crust of cheese.

Neapolitan-style pizza

Puffy-edged and wood-fired are the hallmarks of this thin pie, traditionally made only with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese.

Think of this as your regular pizza, with plenty of sauce and cheese and cut in slices big enough to fold.

This pizza, made from dough that rests for some time, has a crisp crust that is light and airy inside.
