‘Yellowstone’ Star Cole Hauser Hints at New Spin-Off With Select Original Actors

Yellowstone star Cole Hauser hinted to Country Living in a new interview that there might be a spin-off series in the works starring himself and co-star Kelly Reilly.

While the second installment of Yellowstone’s fifth season is expected to drop this fall, cameras have yet to roll on the final episodes of the Dutton family dynasty and it’s still unclear if Kevin Costner will return to close out his role as family patriarch John Dutton. Still, creator Taylor Sheridan has charted a path forward with a direct sequel titled 2024, which will join the prequels 1883 and 1923.

But according to Hauser, those might not be the only spin-offs in development.

“I know that there’s some stuff on the horizon when it comes to Taylor’s ideas for Kelly Reilly and myself, and some of the other cast,” Hauser revealed. ‘I’m excited to see where he goes creatively with that. But right now it’s just: Let’s finish strong; let’s do the best we can.”

Hauser, who plays ranch foreman Rip Wheeler on the hit Western drama, reiterated that he wants to end Yellowstone on a high note before he turns his attention to any other series in the franchise.

“I’m so focused on finishing Yellowstone the way it needs to be finished right now—well, just the show itself,” he said. “We’ll see where that leads.”

Hauser and Reilly may be rolled into the cast of 2024, as opposed to having their own spin-off. Though Sheridan was reportedly resistant to having any of Yellowstone’s cast return for the sequel, a report in Puck (via The Hollywood Reporter) clarified that the creator had changed his stance and is considering having some character return. The lead role in 2024 has yet to be cast, but the show will presumably continue the Dutton’s saga after the departure of Costner’s character.

As for the man himself, Costner recently expressed a desire to return and close out his character’s arc, though he ultimately left the decision in Sheridan’s hands.

“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to,” Costner told Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon. “I thought I was going to make seven [seasons], but right now we’re at five. So how it works out—I hope it does—but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”
