Yellowstone Spinoff 1923 Cast Revealed: Meet the New Generation of Duttons at the Center of Prequel Series

Which section of the Dutton family tree will the latest Yellowstone offshoot 1923 focus on? We finally have an answer to that question — and we can also reveal who will be playing them.

Joining previously announced leads Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in Paramount+’s follow-up to 1883 will be Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom), James Badge Dale (24), Marley Shelton (The Lottery), Brian Geraghty (Big Sky), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas), Julia Schlaepfer (The Politician) and relative newcomer Aminah Nieves.

As reported, this newest chapter of Yellowstone‘s “origin story” will introduce viewers to the next two generations of the franchise’s central family, the Duttons “as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade.”

TVLine can confirm that Ford will be playing Jacob Dutton, who is the brother of James Dutton (the character played by Tim McGraw in 1883). Mirren, meanwhile, will portray Jacob’s wife, Cara Dutton. Both Jacob and Cara are believed to be new to the Yellowstone universe.

Production on 1923 is currently underway in Montana ahead of a December 2022 launch on Paramount+. There’s no official confirmation on whether 1923 will be a self-contained limited series the way that 1883 turned out to be.
