Yellowstone is saddling up for its final ride.

Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network megahit will resume production on its final episodes in the late spring of 2024. Yellowstone, earlier this month, had set a premiere date of November 2024 for the second half of its fifth and final season, which last aired its midseason finale Jan. 6, 2023, and will usher in the end of the series.

The final episodes close the book on the current Dutton family saga. After ending on a game-changing cliffhanger involving Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), sister Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the second half of the season had initially been slated for this fall. But production was first delayed by a scheduling dispute over Costner’s status with the show and then by the dual writers and actors strikes, which brought about a halt of scripted productions.

The flagship series in the Costner-led franchise is the latest show to restart following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which on Nov. 9 cleared actors to return to work.

It’s not yet clear if Costner will appear in the final episodes.

Yellowstone had not begun production before the strike was called, and the scripts from creator Sheridan, who writes the entire series, were not yet complete. Writing resumed immediately after the end of the writers strike, which was Sept. 27. An official episode count for the second half of season five has yet to be announced.

With the flagship being the most watched series across cable and broadcast (and now reairing on CBS), there will be more Dutton generations to come after Yellowstone rides off into the sunset. In addition to a second season of prequel series 1923, Paramount Network has announced that two more spinoffs are in the works: 2024 (working title), a present-day story with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star, and another prequel, 1944, that will follow in the footsteps of the limited series prequel 1883 and 1923.

Yellowstone is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and co-created by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Sheridan (Wind RiverHell or High Water and Sicario) and John Linson. Executive producers include John Linson, Art Linson, Sheridan, Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay and Christina Voros.
