Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone has been off the air for over eight months, which means that fans of the Dutton Ranch are quite parched for details and tidbits when it comes to Season Four, which is anticipated to debut this summer. Sure, there are plans for a prequel, and a spinoff, but what fans are really interested in is what happened after that explosive finale that seemingly left John, Beth, and Kayce's fates hanging in the air.

The final few minutes of Yellowstone's Season Three finale, "The World is Purple," were explosive to say the least: an office bomb, a brigade of gunmen, and a van that wanted to do anything but see John Dutton alive. But the beauty in waiting for more Yellowstone is having the opportunity to go back and rewatch old Yellowstone, picking up bits we might have missed during that first, shocking watch.

A couple fans on Yellowstone's Reddit board pointed out that there were some things that viewers might have not picked up on during the finale. Put them together, and there's some complicated theories that might not bode so well for our favorites. Let's go over a few things that might give some clues as to what we can expect from Season Four's summer premiere.

The Explosion on the Ranch

While Monica is on the phone with Kayce, she hears the gunshots of her husband seemingly being gunned down over the phone, but if you listen carefully, there's also an explosion off screen that seems to be closer in range that Monica turns toward, suggesting it's near the ranch. This is, as one Reddit user notes, a potential telltale that suggests we haven't seen all the damage that Willa Hayes (or honestly, a number of people?) has wrought on the Dutton Ranch.

As to what that explosion could be, who knows: there's always potential that the sequence of events shown in the finale aren't in chronological order. That explosion could be residual noise from the office bomb that (may have) killed Beth. It also could spell trouble for anything extra happening on the ranch, though with an explosion that loud, it's hard to imagine that Sheridan, famous for capturing a dramatic moment, would have let a consequential explosion happen off screen.

Rip's Circle of Buzzards

That leads us to another small detail: as Rip is headed back to the ranch, unable to get ahold of any of the Duttons via his flip phone (protect Rip's flip phone), he comes upon that horse he let go earlier in the season. Fatally wounded, he has to kill it. Afterward, he looks up at the sky and a circle of buzzards are swarming above in the distance. Obviously a sign for what's to come, the circle appears to be floating in the direction fo the ranch. That very well could be the second signal that something has happened to Monica. It could also be a nod that Jimmy, who was bucked off a horse and knocked unconscious (justice for Jimmy!), could be the surprise death no one predicted.

But it could also, in a twist, suggest what feels like the impossible: John Dutton is dead. Shot on the side of the road while helping a woman and her son who had car trouble, John appeared to be conscious and stable after a gunmen mowed him and the woman down. But when he pulled his phone from his chest pocket, he revealed a hole in the phone, covered in blood.

One Lingering Detail

And that leads into one more detail that's been unaddressed: the Power of Attorney issue. Yellowstone has a habit of introducing plot points and then ignoring them (see: that attorney general candidate running against Jamie), but one Reddit user brings up a valid point: the power of attorney debate, which makes it unclear whether Beth or Jamie has power over John's affair, is uncertain.

In a season that was built on the question of whether to sell the ranch, the power of attorney question becomes all the more important if John is mortally wounded on the side of the road. (Also, if Beth is blown up in her office.)

There are still a couple months before Yellowstone returns, so fans can get properly caught up on Peacock before the show lands on Paramount Network later this year.
