Yeah Yeah Yeahs have officially released “Spitting Off the Edge of the World,” their new single featuring vocals from Perfume Genius. The track comes ahead of the September 30 release of the New York trio’s long-awaited new album, Cool It Down, their first as part of a new deal with Secretly Canadian.

The synth-heavy “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” was debuted earlier this week at the group’s intimate Teragram Ballroom show in Los Angeles. Says frontwoman Karen O of the track, which was produced by Dave Sitek, “I see the younger generations staring down this threat, and they’re standing on the edge of a precipice, confronting what’s coming with anger and defiance. It’s galvanizing, and there’s hope there.”

An accompanying video, directed by longtime collaborator Cody Critcheloe, is also out now. “The shoot in Kansas City was dream-like, the dreams you have after eating something really greasy right before bed; bizarre, poetic, and intense,” Karen O says of the clip. “Perfume Genius was incredibly gracious to roll in the very cold mud as my co-pilot and steal scene after scene with his surreal charm.”

Cool It Down is the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ first album since 2013’s Mosquito, which debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200. The eight-track set is named after a song from The Velvet Underground’s 1970 album Loaded.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have a handful of live dates on the calendar for summer and fall, beginning Sunday (June 5) in Manchester, England and continuing through two big headlining shows on Oct. 1 at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium just outside of New York and Oct. 6 at the Hollywood Bowl in los Angeles.
