Yasiel Puig has Bernie Sanders to thank if he gets off to a hot start
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig got some hitting advice from an unusual source Sunday. It wasn’t from a coach or a teammate. It wasn’t from a Dodgers legend. It was from 74-year-old Senator Bernie Sanders.

Sanders stopped by Dodgers camp Sunday for a “try out.” During his day with the club, he took a moment to talk hitting with Puig. Their conversation led to one of the most unlikely pairings in a baseball picture we’ve ever seen.

Yep, that’s Bernie Sanders possibly showing Puig the finer arts of hitting. Puig seems pretty interested in what he was to say, so perhaps Sanders knows his stuff.
Is Sanders throwing some shade at Puig with that tweet? Probably not. He’s just getting into character and playing up his role as a hitting instructor.
It’s more fun to think he’s subtly calling Puig out, though. His “with a few tweaks” line implies Puig needs to make adjustments at the plate. And he specifically mentions “30 home runs,” a milestone Puig has yet to pass in his career. Reading that tweet as 100 percent sincere is far more entertaining.
The best part could be yet to come. If Puig gets off to a blazing start, will he actually thank Sanders for giving him some hot hitting tips? While that seems highly unlikely, we can’t completely rule it out.
