Nominations for Best Late Night Host, Best Character in a Procedural, and The Character You Love to Hate Wanted!
It’s Day 2 of the nomination period for the inaugural Yahooies!, Yahoo TV’s reader voted awards honoring the best of the 2014-15 TV season (including summer shows).
Each day this week, we’ll do a call for nominations for three of our 15 categories. Your picks will help determine the official nominees. Then, starting Aug. 24, we’ll post one category a day with a poll to crown the winner.
There’s still time to weigh in on Best Sex Scene, Best Sketch, and Best Mystery. But today’s three new categories: Best Late Night Host, Best Character in a Procedural, and the Character You Love to Hate.
Suggestions to get you thinking…
BEST LATE NIGHT HOST
The Emmys, of course, have categories to honor variety talk series, as well as their writing, directing, lighting, picture editing, etc. But there’s no category to single out late night hosts (just reality TV ones). With David Letterman and Jon Stewart both effectively retiring, they’d be the sentimental favorites, but also deserving.
BEST CHARACTER IN A PROCEDURAL
You don’t maintain your title as broadcast TV’s top-rated show today without having characters that people want to invite into their homes. To be clear, we’re looking for procedurals like the aforementioned NCIS as opposed to serialized dramas such as The Fall and Broadchurch.
THE CHARACTER YOU LOVE TO HATE
They are the ones you might call “evil but entertaining,” the kind of characters that make you yell at your TV because they’re so good at being bad: Sons of Anarchy’s Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal), for example, or Outlander’s Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). We advocated for both Sagal and Menzies to receive Emmy nominations this year to no avail.
