A24 has announced that Rachel Zegler (West Side Story, Shazam! Fury of the Gods), Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Jaeden Martell (It films), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Lachlan Watson (Chucky), Mason Gooding (Scream VI), and rapper The Kid Laroi have been cast in the upcoming disaster comedy titled Y2K.

The project hails from Jonah Hill, who has signed on to produce the project through his Strong Baby banner. This marks Hill’s latest collaboration with A24 after previously working together in his feature directorial debut Mid90s.

Y2K will be written and directed by Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter. Additionally, Tim Heidecker (Us), Eduardo Franco (Booksmart, Stranger Things), Miles Robbins (Blockers), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street, The White Lotus), and Daniel Zolghadri (Funny Pages) have joined the cast.

The film will be produced by Winter, Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin, and American Light & Fixture’s Chris Storer (The Bear). Wētā Workshop will be handling design and practical effects while A24 will serve as its financier.

“It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Two high school nobodies (Martell, Dennison) decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium,” reads the synopsis. “When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined.”
