A cooperating defendant in the XXXTentacion murder trial has been revealed as a possible witness in the forthcoming murder trial of rapper YNW Melly.

According to documents posted on DJ Akademiks’ Instagram account, Robert Allen, who was charged and convicted for his role in the murder of XXXTentacion, is among those listed as potential witnesses against YNW Melly. While it’s unclear how Allen is connected to the case or what he’ll testify to, it’s noted that he’s currently incarcerated in the same jail as the rapper.

Earlier this year, Allen served as the key witness in the XXXTentacion murder trial, which resulted in the convictions of Michael Boatwright, 28, Dedrick Williams, 26, and Trayvon Newsome, 24. The trio were found guilty of first-degree murder and armed robbery in the 2018 slaying.

Allen, who was present with the co-defendants at the time in the murder, plead guilty to second-degree murder and received a lenient sentence in exchange for his testimony, receiving a sentence of seven years in prison, five of which was credited as time served.

YNW’s homicide trial for the 2018 deaths of 21-year-old Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and 19-year-old Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas has seen numerous twists and turns. In June, a mistrial was declared after jurors were unable to come to a unanimous verdict in the case, leading prosecutors to move forward with a second attempt to convict the alleged murderer.

More recently, Melly’s attorneys filed a motion requesting the removal of the Broward County Attorney’s Office from the case and to dismiss the charges against their client following alleged prosecutorial misconduct. According to a witness, Broward Office Assistant State Attorney Michelle Boutros and Detective Mark Moretti asked a deputy to lie about a search warrant executed outside of his jurisdiction.

As a result of the defense’s motion, a judge has pushed back jury selection for the trial, which was initially scheduled to begin Oct. 9.
