'xXx 3': First Set Pics Prove Xander Has Still Got the Moves

Ladies and gentlemen, Vin Diesel just presented us with the very first set pic from xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage. It’s been about 14 years since Vin Diesel played the tattooed criminal turned secret agent, but Vin is happy to be back, writing on Facebook:

“You can tell the first day what level of crew you will be working with and it is clear that xXx has the very best. Grateful for the opportunity to make magic.”

So why the return now? Since the first xXx movie, a little thing called The Fast and the Furious has grown into one of the biggest franchises ever, with Furious 7 being the sixth highest-grossing movie of all time. So Diesel’s star status has been pretty well cemented, and it’s no wonder Paramount wants some of the love Universal’s been getting by resurrecting the franchise. But can xXx 3 match that Fast and Furious magic? The studio will going to try, but Diesel had a gang of stars like Dwayne Johnson to help him carry the street-racing series.

Speaking of which, Xander Cage will have some backup from returning cast member Samuel L. Jackson and newcomers Jet Li and Tony Jaa. And knowing Diesel’s cinematic penchant for tough ladies who can hold their own, newcomers Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone will probably fight with one another at some point in the film.

One big question mark, though, is whether or not Ice Cube, the ‘xXx’ of xXx 2, will be stopping by. Probably not, since 2005’s underwhelming sequel State of the Union is something the makers are happy you’ve already forgotten.
